W
elcome to First Congregational Church, a church in covenant with the
United Church of Christ, of Congregational history and heritage. We
are a congregation committed to a faith founded on the belief that the
fullness of divine grace and truth has been revealed by God through the
life and ministry of Jesus Christ and preserved in the Bible, which we
interpret as the Holy Spirit, grants us insight and as knowledge of the
times expands. We are reformed in our theology and ecumenical in
outlook.
We
welcome you to our fellowship, promising-as is consistent with our
Pilgrim heritage-the freedom to work out your beliefs and put into
practice your ethical and social convictions as best you are able. We
acknowledge that we are all in need of God’s forgiveness. We are
confident, however, that if we accept the reconciling love of Jesus
Christ, and love our neighbor as Jesus taught, we shall be given power
to become children of God, heirs of God’s love and justice.
We
invite you to participate in the life of our church to the extent you
feel able, and offer you our warmest fellowship in the pilgrimage that
we all pray will lead us to full service in God’s kingdom.
Join
us, won’t you, so that in worship, study, fellowship and service we may
grow closer as friends and more committed to the Lord.
The
members of First Congregational Church are actively committed in
services to this community. They serve through their church, and many
are involved individually in outside service organizations.
Two
Prescott institutions were established by this church in ecumenical
partnership with other churches: Prescott Samaritan Village and the
Community Cupboard. This church was also the largest church
contributor in the establishment of the Prescott affiliate of “Habitat
for Humanity” and remains one of their Covenant Churches.
The
church, and groups within the church, contribute thousands of dollars
annually to more than 20 charities and benevolences in Prescott.
Furthermore, substantial contributions are made to the national and
worldwide missions of the U.C.C., as well as to the support of a
variety of ecumenical and interdenominational benevolent programs.
